The gap between R&D and the live BOM
ERP systems are excellent at inventory, costing, and production orders. They are not built for the messy middle: customer emails, spec PDFs, trial batches, and parallel spreadsheet versions. That gap is where expensive mistakes happen—wrong allergen declarations, outdated batch sizes, or a BOM that never matched what QA approved.
Formulane as the approval layer
Formulane holds the working record for each formula change: who requested it, what changed, which calculations were run, and who approved. When the change is complete, Formulane prepares the release package your ERP expects. Your integrator or IT team maps fields once; operators do not re-key formulas by hand.
Typical data flows
- Inbound from ERP: material master, units, stock levels, standard costs where available
- In Formulane: formula versions, spec attachments, approval chains, batch scaling
- Outbound to ERP: approved BOM revisions, production-ready batch sheets, audit trail references
SAP and beyond
Many of our conversations start with SAP, but the pattern is the same for other ERPs: Formulane is not a rip-and-replace project. Pilots usually cover one product family and two or three customer formulas before wider rollout.

Common questions
Does Formulane replace SAP?
No. Formulane sits alongside SAP and other ERPs, handling formula change workflow and releasing approved BOMs after your team confirms.
Who approves a BOM before it hits the ERP?
Your people do. Formulane tracks each approval; nothing is released until the required sign-offs are complete.
